USA Parkway is in the process of final completion! The new road is being named State Route 439. It will directly connect Route 50 in Silver Springs to Interstate 80. This will reduce the commute distance from Silver Springs to Reno by 38%. This puts the Silver Springs/Stagecoach area in prime position to support the commercial growth in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. In addition the airport has received an FAA grant for runway expansion. The Silver Springs airport has also been designated as an official UAV (unmaned aerial vehicle) testing site.
The big news at Silver Springs Airport in 2016 is that the new USA Parkway is in the process of final completion. The latest news as of Dec. 14, 2015 is that the USA Parkway contractor has been approved, (see the Reno Gazette-Journal article). Construction is going to be completed in late 2017 time frame. The new USA Parkway will position Silver Springs and the Airport in prime position to support the growth of the area.
Silver Springs airport will be the closest airport to the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. USA Parkway will be approximately 1 mile from Silver Springs airport. The airport is gearing up to support this growth with the addition of a new hanger, and special VLS Approach landing system that will support jet traffic. In addition, the airport will have Jet fuel well before the new USA Parkway is done.
A new SS airport master plan for significant expansion and improvements is in the process of final approval. This includes runway extension to 8440' x 100'.
